Damien Hirst-'Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable' http://www.damienhirst.com/exhibitions/solo/2017/treasures-from-the-wreck-of-the-unbelievable As Damien Hirst is one of the artists I have been studying for my final major, I thought it important to take inspiration from him with my sculptures and despite being commercially unsuccessful, I think this my favourite exhibition of his. He created an exhibition that looked like items that had been discovered from a shipwreck of a large ship called he ...

WEEK 12

Following this structure: Intentions:   -Not to panic -Finish blog work -Finish Final Piece -Finish Evaluation -Hand in on Friday Diary: 18-6-20 / Conclusion I have finished up everything and it has all been sent off. it feels so strange that everything is all over now. It's strange how life was so busy that I couldn't breathe one minute and the next everything was just gone, all of my anxieties were gone. But I was stuck at home, which was also a very difficult situation to deal with. All things considered, I am happy with the work I've made in the circumstances that I've made it in. I had the freedom to just absolutely fall madly in love with different genres of music too and I taught myself to play the bass. I also feel like I've made some of the best art I ever have, even if it didn't feel like it at the time because I'm quite self critical. I feel like this served as a great filler of the void of the Bauhaus concert probably not going on this year, but ...

FINAL PIECE MOCKUP

Image
Medusa Piece I wanted to test out how I was envisioning my final piece with a singular piece first, it was heavily inspired by Damien Hirst's Medusa piece from the exhibition 'Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable'  I started by using a plaster cast that I had done of my early Daniel Ash piece, I knew I wanted to make something inspired by Medusa in relation to this piece because Daniel Ash has really big, thick hair and I thought it would be perfect for something like this. Proof that Daniel Ash is the coolest person to ever exist ever has really big hair: Painting I started by painting the cast in green acrylic paint, I tried to add variation in tone by improperly mixing the colours on the sculpture so some areas are more blue and some are lighter green, like how Malachite also has variations in tones and I wanted it to be close to this. I used a sating varnish over the top of this in several coats which gave it a nice, glossy finish like the stone I am trying to ...

WEEK 11

Following this structure: Intentions -Sand down Daniel Ash sculpture as he is too bulky -Prepare sculptures for painting -Start to paint sculptures -Weft the hair Diary: (order bottom to top) Conclusion: I have been very productive this week! I have been doing some research for how I want my sculptures to look, They are sanded and painted and I am ready for them to be done early next week. I do feel like I have left them a bit too late but at the same time, this is the only time I could've really done them. I ordered a new record and I'm really happy to have a Daniel Ash record now! Next week I intend on finishing my sculptures, Finishing my blog, Writing an Evaluation and Finishing everything.

THE ART OF NOISE ART BOOK

Image
This was a book that I was making that was supposed to expand on my sketchbook work, I ultimately didn't end up finishing it as I didn't feel like I was learning much from it. My intention was to make something that looked like Zine, or had the same feel, but was also an art book. I was inspired by the self-published Zines from the punk era of the late 70s early 80s. I also wanted it to have a chronological view of the music that inspired Bauhaus. Here is what I ended up with: The title is a reference to the Avant Garde band, 'The Art of Noise,' when I found them amongst my dads collection of records. I was very excited by the title, and thought the track 'A Time For the Fear' was highly pertinent for the times we are living in. So include references to this. The front page is a self portrait of me done in arylic, scanned in and over-layed with charcoal. On this page is a study of Marc Bolan of glam rock band, T.Rex, in charcoal. On the alternate page is an exce...

DIGITAL PAINTINGS

Image
One thing I really enjoy is working in digital media to make my art. I like posting my art online and this provides and incentive for me to develop on my digital art skills. As I want to go into the concept art industry, it's important for me to practise these skills. Also, Digital Art can be a great way of improving your art skills, as I have found that being able to use the liquify tool to fix my proportions, use the undo button, experiment with different styles of brushes and colour palettes, all without loss of material or consequences, has been very helpful for my creative practise.   Peter Murphy sketch and paint With this piece I used a traditional sketch that I scanned into my iPad and worked on top of in Procreate using an opaque flat brush to maintain the sketchy feel. I also used the liquify tool multiple times to fix the proportions where I hadn't got them quite right. I start tonal, as I posted this to a collaboration page where our aesthetic is grayscale art. I ...
