WEEK 12

Image
Following this structure: Intentions:   -Not to panic -Finish blog work -Finish Final Piece -Finish Evaluation -Hand in on Friday Diary: 18-6-20 / Conclusion I have finished up everything and it has all been sent off. it feels so strange that everything is all over now. It's strange how life was so busy that I couldn't breathe one minute and the next everything was just gone, all of my anxieties were gone. But I was stuck at home, which was also a very difficult situation to deal with. All things considered, I am happy with the work I've made in the circumstances that I've made it in. I had the freedom to just absolutely fall madly in love with different genres of music too and I taught myself to play the bass. I also feel like I've made some of the best art I ever have, even if it didn't feel like it at the time because I'm quite self critical. I feel like this served as a great filler of the void of the Bauhaus concert probably not going on this year, but ...

WEEK 11

Image
Following this structure: Intentions -Sand down Daniel Ash sculpture as he is too bulky -Prepare sculptures for painting -Start to paint sculptures -Weft the hair Diary: (order bottom to top) Conclusion: I have been very productive this week! I have been doing some research for how I want my sculptures to look, They are sanded and painted and I am ready for them to be done early next week. I do feel like I have left them a bit too late but at the same time, this is the only time I could've really done them. I ordered a new record and I'm really happy to have a Daniel Ash record now! Next week I intend on finishing my sculptures, Finishing my blog, Writing an Evaluation and Finishing everything.

WEEK 10

Image
Following this structure: Intentions: -Do some oil painting studies in conjunction with my experiments of making acrylic paint work like oil -Finalise some sketchbook work Diary: (order from bottom to top) Conclusion: Again this week, the anxiety of dealing with more applications got the better of me. Hopefully that will be the end of it for a bit. I did manage to digitalise some of my work which is a start this week. Now I know that I'm definitely going to university this year which is really exciting!! Next week I desperately need to begin my final piece using the sculptures that I have and this needs to be my focus!

WEEK 9

Image
Following this structure: Intentions: -work more on my sketchbook -plan for my Final Piece a little bit and decide where I want to take my sculptures Diary: Conclusion: Unfortunately, I was totally incapacitated with anxiety and running around to finalise my application to do much work. I've done a couple of comfort pieces here and there to help with the anxiety, like a Peter Murphy portrait in oil pastel that I quite like. The anxiety about starting my application was bad, but the anxiety about finalising it was way worse, way way worse. I don't think I've ever experienced anything that felt that bad in a while. I think that's why I like to listen to loud music, because its louder than the anxiety, if that makes sense. But that's how I've dealt with this week a couple of portraits here and there, playing my bass, listening to a lot of music and dealing with the application itself. Hopefully everything is sorted now, so next week I'll intend on working on my...

WEEK 8

Image
Following this structure: Intentions -Following on from the failures of sculpting, I want to do a bit of painting instead, I want to do some more portraits using watermixable oil medium and acrylic, just to see how they turn out and to explore this idea further. -I need to rest and take it a little slower so that I don't completely burn myself out. Sketchbook studies and pages will be my focus.  Diary: Conclusion: I had a nice, slow-paced week of painting and listening to my new record (Crocodile Tears and the Velvet Cosh by David J!). I have been enjoying the combination of water mixable oil medium with my acrylic paint, in some instances it seems to work out really well and make my acrylic behave just like oil paint, which is very exciting. I did really need a slower paced week and I feel like it has done me a lot of good confidence wise and also energy wise. Next week, I intend on  continuing on with my sketchbook, and still leaving my sculptures for a little bit as I don't...

WEEK 7

Image
Following this structure: Intentions:  -Continue on with sketchbook work, experimenting with acrylic paint specifically and my Caran D'ache wax oil pastels -Cast all of the Bauhaus sculptures in latex Diary: Concluion: While I was able to cast the Bauhaus sculptures in Latex with an expanding foam core, I don't feel like this is what I want my Final Piece to look like. They came out looking wrinkley, orange and the foam hadn't adhered properly to the cotton on the inside of the latex. The Modroc Moulds have got damp on them as well, so I don't really want them hanging around for very long. It's quite disappointing to feel like I keep failing at what I want to achieve. This is not what we were aiming for, I don't think it's even human, all I know is that it should never see the light of day again Next week, I intend to put down the sculpting for a bit and focus purely on my sketchbook work and painting. I need a breather from the stress of moulding and demoul...

WEEK 6

Image
Following this structure: Intentions: -Do some digital work as I haven't done any in a while and I'd like to use it in my work. -Have a go at Latex casting from a modroc mould of one of my sculptures. -Sketchbook work Diary: Conclusion: I did manage to cast my sculpture of Peter in the end but I didn't feel that it was as successful as it could have been. I get the feeling that the process might be rife with issues because of the patience required to let the latex dry so that it doesn't skin over, and my lack of it. Coating the  mould in a thicker layer of Vaseline might help, but it might give my sculpture brush marks. I am, however, happy to have had a bit of success with this process this week. Next week, I want to try casting all of the sculptures using the same process and continue on with the side-by-side work on my sketchbook. I've been especially enjoying using my Caran D'ache wax oil pastels and putting music references in my sketchbook, so I think I wa...

WEEK 5

Image
Following this structure: Intentions: -send picture of sculptures to Emily for blog -finish a Daniel Ash sculpture and send to Emily for blog -Carry on with painting experiments and Sketchbook work Diary: (in order from bottom to top) Conclusion: I was able to send the pictures of my sculptures to Emily on time. I sculpted Daniel Ash in 5 hours and in one sitting which is a record time for me, though he probably would've looked more accurate if I had of taken my time with it. I've completed the set and now I'm exhausted and want to focus on doing a bit of my 2D work. Next week, I'll aim to do a bit of digital art and some more sketchbook work as I'm getting quite into my sketchbook work. I've been painting David J a lot so maybe I'll have a go at drawing someone else. I also want to have a go at casting in Latex following on from the silicone casting failure.

WEEK 4

Image
Following this structure: Intentions: -Continue to develop my sketchbook work -Post my artist research -Start a new sculpture Diary: Conclusion: My Sketchbook work has really been coming along this week, although I think I'm overthinking things a lot. I'm struggling to give my work meaning, or more like the meaning of the pieces is getting in the way of being able to draw. I've been discovering new music (Thankyou, David J and Duende) and this has fuelled my creativity largely. I'm also becoming more in tune to my sculpting practise, as I tend to be able to tell when things start to go wrong in the beginning and restarting, rather than struggling on can often be the best policy when sculpting. Dealing with burn out, the sketchbook work has been really helpful to me. Next week, I want to finish my David J sculpture but continue to focus my 2D work, with doing lots of paintings, as I feel that this has been very helpful.
